How many sessions are recommended for Hypnotherapy

The number of sessions varies depending on individual needs, but typically ranges from 3 to 10 sessions, depending on your objectives and what you would like to achieve.

For optimal results, it is recommended to invest in a minimum of three sessions. This allows your busy mind to acclimate to and accept the work we're doing. Initially, your conscious mind may analyze, question, test, or resist the process, as it can feel new and unfamiliar. However, once your mind becomes accustomed to this new experience, it will be more open to suggestion.

Remember, your session, or sessions, are tailored to your personal needs. The more you experience hypnotherapy, the more your receptivity increases.

What can I expect during a session

During a hypnotherapy session, you can expect to be in a relaxed state as I guide you through positive suggestions and imagery tailored to your objectives, assisting you in achieving your goals. You are always in control, and if anything doesn’t feel comfortable, you will recognize it and can address it. You can even sneeze or adjust yourself in your chair or lounger and then simply relax back into a trance—if you even came out of it. Trance is tricky to explain; it’s like a deeply relaxed state of wakefulness with your eyes closed. You are tuned in to yourself and tuned out from the external environment. You may seem fully aware of everything around you, but if you were to hear a loud noise, you would realize just how relaxed you truly are.

This model of Hypnotherapy is not a stage Hypnosis. Sandra is a safe and fully trained practitioner who is aligned with a professional body and governed by the 'The Medicines Act 1981' and the ASA.

How long does a session go for

In Hypnotherapy, the work always starts with exploring and understanding your desired results, as this forms the basis of your personalised experience. If this is your first time, allow 1.5 hours, which will include gaining information from you. The following sessions may only require 1hour.

In EMDR, allow one hour per session. EMDR isn't a one-session model. EMDR is an investment and covers a range of factors.

Is Hypnotherapy suitable for everyone

Hypnotherapy is generally safe for most people, but some individuals may not be suitable candidates. It is equally critical to mention that Hypnotherapy is only as safe as the training, professional development, and integrity of the practitioner. Please do your homework.

We take this work seriously and will conduct a thorough assessment to ensure compatibility.

How do I know what approach is right for me

That's a great question! Besides Hypnotherapy and EMDR, various intervention options are available, all of which can be effective. The best choice depends on your individual needs, your current stage of personal development, and the style that resonates with you. Together, we can create a plan to optimize your outcomes.

What should I expect from EMDR treatment

EMDR isn't an intervention. EMDR is a therapeutic model that requires a considered approach and should only be implemented by a trained professional, particularly when processing trauma.  Because EMDR can be highly effective for trauma processing, it is crucial to gather historical information, including any health issues. We assess your D.E.S score, as well as review your ACE scores. Steps can include

  1. Background information
  2. Resourcing and stabilising as required
  3. Reviewing parts using IFS as required
  4. Processing memory as per EMDR Protocol

Do you offer online sessions

Yes, online meetings via Zoom are a valid option for those who have time and travel restrictions, or who will require Zoom due to geographical barriers.

One-on-one sessions are also available in the studio.

Some clients mix between attending via Zoom and in person.

Is there a cancellation fee

Yes, this has become standard practice for most businesses. A 24-hour notice is required for cancellations; otherwise, you will be invoiced 30% of the total amount. I maintain a waiting list, so early cancellations allow me to offer the appointment to someone on that list or enable someone to reschedule for an earlier time.

Payments must be made online before your appointment.

Once you have scheduled an appointment, I will provide the information you need. To manage my waiting list, appointments aren't officially confirmed until payment is made.

Do you have Supervision and how are you governed

Absolutely - yes, yes, yes! Supervision must be undertaken. It keeps us in good form, and to be a member of a recognized governing body, it is compulsory. I am governed by NZAC and HNZ. Additionally, the guiding principles of The Medicines Act 1981 and the ASA.

I also offer supervision for practitioners across various modalities, ensuring a safe environment that promotes growth.

Is there any research on Hypnotherapy and EMDR combined

Yes, there is a tremendous amount of valid research.

Heres a little blurb based on research, regarding the intergration of Hypnsois and EMDR

Bryant’s longitudinal Australian study (2022) supported  findings which indicated that participants receiving both hypnosis and EMDR exhibited significantly lower cortisol reactivity when confronted with trauma-related cues than those who received only EMDR. The integration of hypnosis with EMDR constitutes a promising advancement in trauma treatment methodologies. Barabasz and Watkins (2021) detailed a sequential approach in which EMDR's bilateral stimulation initially facilitated traumatic memory desensitisation, followed by hypnotic reinforcement to strengthen adaptive self-concepts.  This combined protocol resulted in a 38% reduction in PTSD treatment duration compared to standard methods, accompanied by markedly lower relapse rates at one-year follow-up.  The enhanced clinical outcomes were attributed to hypnosis' capacity to consolidate EMDR-induced neurobiological memory reconsolidation effects.

What is trance like

That's a good question! Experiencing trance varies from person to person. Some individuals feel light and weightless, while others perceive their bodies as heavy and immobile. The depth of trance can differ for each person and may vary in different sessions. Generally, the more sessions you have, the quicker and deeper you can enter a trance state. It's important to note that the depth of trance doesn't matter;  Lighter states of trance can be just as effective as deeper ones. In trance, you are typically aware of what is being said as you follow my voice; however, you may find that you have drifted off, and my voice brings you back. I have described it as being in a deeply relaxed state with your eyes closed and an inward focus. Some individuals may feel that they weren't in a trance at all due to their awareness of sounds and their body. However, they are genuinely surprised to experience how deep they have gone when a sudden noise brings them back.

Going back before the dawn of time—or anesthesia—specific trance states were utilized in healing practices and surgical procedures. This particular level of trance is very specific, and the type of work we will be doing does not require reaching this depth.

Do you provide free consults for Hypnotherapy

Absolutely. I believe it is essential to address any questions you may have and gain clarity about what you are seeking before a planned session. The more informed you are, the more open you will likely be to the experience.

Additionally, if you do commit to a session, I will send you a short prerecording to listen to, which will help prepare your mind for the work to come

Hypnotherapy -How much do you charge and do you offer a payment plan

Individual sessions are priced at $220.

I recommend five weekly sessions, and offer a prepaid package that brings the fee down to $200 per session, which results in an overall savings of $100.

All sessions must be paid in advance, and a cancellation fee does apply unless there has been fair notice. This is to support my waiting list and enable other individuals an opportunity to attend, or bring their appointments forward.  Payments are made online, and details are sent once an appointment has been made

What about confidentiality

All sessions are treated as confidential and private, regardless of your reason for attending
